The First Edition of the Quebec-wide High-School Battle of the Bands Competition
Crowns its very First Winning Band

For immediate release:

Montreal, Canada- June 16th, 2009- Montreal based Godin Guitars was a proud sponsor of “Can Your School Rock” battle of the bands competition, showcasing the talents of young up-and-coming Quebec based high-school bands. The grand finale took place this past June 6th, 2009 at Mel's Cité du Cinéma studios in Montreal where the final four competing bands took the stage to perform and showcase why they reached the finals out of the original 48 bands who entered the competition.  The final four included Set To Kill, The Chair Warriors along with the runners up Styleewood and the first official Can Your School Rock winners The Basement Superheroes, a power-pop-punk trio made up of members Alex Izzo, Max Izzo and Shawn Chemtov.

Along with studio time to record a forth-coming album with producer Borza Ghomeshi, who has worked with acts such as Kate and Anna McGarrigle, Ramasutra and multiple Grammy award-winning artist Emmylou Harris, the winners also received  $10,000 in brand-new music equipment, including a Godin Redline 2 electric guitar and a Godin Freeway 4 electric bass.

Godin Guitars was also on hand to award a Godin Summit CT to Justin Saladino whose unbelievable talent on guitar throughout the competition blew everyone away. Unfortunately, his band did not make it through to the final four but the 15-year-old phenom was well deserving of the title as the “Best Guitarist” in the competition.  In addition, Godin Guitars, in collaboration with Lucky Graphix, donated a CYSR Custom Godin Redline 1 which was raffled off before the announcement of the winning band.

Beginning back in February of this year, this first installment of the competition was open to both private and public schools across the province of Quebec and band members are not required to attend the same school to enter. Bands were required to compete in an elimination style audition process which took place over four rounds, where they performed in front of a panel of music industry judges including CYSR founders Sandro Mauro, musician Giacinto Salerno, Godin’s Artist Relations Rep Fred DiSanto and renowned producer & sound engineer Borza Ghomeshi. The panel of judges for the grand finale also included industry guests such Quebec pop star Jacynthe and Montreal based rocker Jonas, who both shared their time and knowledge with the young bands.

Congratulations to all the bands and to the Basement Superheroes for being the first winners of Can Your School Rock.
