The 2nd edition of the Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS) - July 6-9, 2006 |
| |
 |
The MMMIS opened with excitement and the sounds of bubbling champagne at a press conference given by Montreal International Jazz Festival founder Alain Simard and MMMIS General Manager Jacques-Andre Dupont. It was at this media gathering that they honoured Robert Godin, by presenting him as this year’s recipient of the 2nd annual MMMIS Award, for which he was both touched and honored in receiving. This award is given to individuals for their significant contributions to the promotion of making music. Click here for pics for pics of the award presentation! |

| Throughout the 4 day event the Godin Guitar family was busy showing and talking up a storm to the great many guitar enthusiasts who visited the Godin booth and the Luthier Hall. As a new addition to the show, the Luthier Hall allowed us to display some unique and very special guitars such as the Custom Seagull Redwood Cedar model of which only 2 were made…a rare bird indeed. Also in the Luthier Hall, were the Godin silent auction guitars. These one of a kind instruments were transformed into individual, hand painted, works of art by Jazz Fest artist Yves Archambault. The proceeds from the silent auction will go towards various programs such as the MMMIS Music To Youth Fund. Click here for pics from the show! |

Robert Godin himself was a very busy man during the show. When not accepting awards and attending his very own tribute concert put on by the festival organizers in his honor, Robert could be found spreading his incredibly infectious enthusiasm for the instrument he’s proud to put his name on. Speaking to the masses in various free clinics which he gave, Robert not only talks about but teaches the in’s and out’s of the guitar with workshops like “Choosing the right guitar for you” and “Unique Instruments”. You can be guaranteed that those in attendance gained a wealth of knowledge and most definitely had a serious urge to play once it was finished. For those who haven’t had the opportunity, we suggest you attend one of Robert’s clinics the next time around…you won’t be disappointed!

Another popular event presented by Godin Guitars and MMMIS was the “Learn Guitar in One Hour” workshop with René Gilbert. René is an accomplished Quebec guitar teacher who can turn a room of complete beginners into future guitarists!….and as the title suggests, this all takes place in the span of one hour. So, if you’ve ever wanted to learn to play guitar but thought you didn’t have the time…this is your chance to stop hummin’ and start strummin’!! All acoustic guitars at this free event are provided by Godin Guitars.

| The 2nd annual MMMIS was a great experience for everyone involved. It gave the public an open invitation to explore their curiosity, fascination and love of the guitar, which is crucial in the development of present and future musicians. It also gave us the pleasure and opportunity to meet a lot of new friends and faces, answer questions and explain to everyone who stopped by, what the Godin Guitar Family is all about. Judging by the fantastic turnout and incredible response from all who attended, the MMMIS experience will be shared again and again, for years to come. Many thanks to the event organizers and to all who attended. |
